First Mennonite Church of Wadsworth celebrated
the 150th anniversary of its founding, in 1852.
The services and celebrations occurred the weekends
of October 19th and 20th, 2002 with the main church
service
held on Sunday, Oct 20.
It seems appropriate at this time to remember
our origins, to celebrate our accomplishments,
and to renew our commitments. Some months before,
we began to display interesting bits of information
on church history. There was a continuing series of
poster board displays on such things as Sunday School,
Camp Friedenswald, Trease Road Child Care Center.
These colorful displays were full of archival
material such as newspaper clippings
and photographs, and were displayed
in the hallway of the church. The entire series was displayed in the parlor
during the final weekend. Also on display, along the back window, was
a "timeline", depicting in word and picture the history of the church,
along with significant items in world and local
history to mark our place. As always, it is seen
that we have been involved in the wider community,
whether in missions, war, prohibition, or other concerns.
